Lisa Wedeen is an associate professor of political science at the University of Chicago. Her publications include Ambiguities of Domination: Politics, Rhetoric, and Symbols in Contemporary Syria (1999) and “Seeing Like a Citizen, Acting Like a State: Exemplary Events in Unified Yemen� (2003). Her book Peripheral Visions: Political Identifications in Unified Yemen is forthcoming.
