Paul Kockelman is an assistant professor of anthropology at Barnard College, Columbia University. He is the author of “A Semiotic Ontology of the Commodity” (Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, 2006) and “Agency: The Relation between Meaning, Power, and Knowledge” (Current Anthropology, 2007).
