Rafael Sánchez teaches at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, New York University. His publications focus on media, politics, populism, and spirit mediumship. His book Dancing Jacobins: A Genealogy of Latin American Populism is forthcoming from Stanford University Press. His current project, "The Fate of Sovereignty in the Landscape of the City," focuses on urban imaginaries and territorializing practices in Caracas under the current Chávez regime.
