Achille Mbembe is research professor in history and politics at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, a senior researcher at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER), and a professor in the Department of Comparative Literature, University of California at Irvine. His latest book is On the Postcolony (2001).
