</p>Anne E. Carroll teaches American and African American literature in the English department at Wichita State University. She is the author of <em>Word, Image, and the New Negro: Representation and Identity in the Harlem Renaissance</em> (2005) as well as numerous published essays. She is also an associate editor of and contributor to <em>The Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance</em> (2004).</p>
