Deborah Posel is founding director of the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where she is also professor of sociology. Her publications include The Making of Apartheid, 1948 –1961 (1991) and an edited collection, Commissioning the Past: Understanding the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2002).
