Dipesh Chakrabarty is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor of History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago, where he is also a Faculty Fellow of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory. He is also a visiting professor at the Research School of Humanities, the Australian National University, Canberra, and an Honorary Professorial Fellow with the School of Historical Studies at the University of Melbourne. His publications include Provincializing Europe (2000; new edition 2007) and Habitations of Modernity (2002). He recently completed a book entitled The Calling of History: Sir Jadunath Sarkar and the Birth of Historical Research in India and is continuing to work on a book on the impact of climate change on the historical imagination.
