Elizabeth A. Povinelli is a professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at Columbia University. She is the author of three books, Labor’s Lost (1994), The Cunning of Recognition (2002), and The Empire of Love (2006). She has been the editor of Public Culture and is now a senior editor of the journal.
