Katie Trumpener is Emily Sanford Professor of Comparative Literature, English and Film Studies at Yale University. Educated in Canada, West Germany and the US, she taught at the University of Chicago from 1990-2002 before moving to Yale. As a graduate student, she published an article in the third issue of Public Culture (2:1); later she spent a decade as a member of its Editorial Collective (starting and editing its ArtWorks section). Her own scholarship has focused on the early history of the European and colonial novel, on twentieth-century European art film, German literary, film and political culture, Marxist aesthetics in Communist Eastern Europe, the picture book, the panorama, world literature and world music. She spent 7 years co-editing Modern Philology and currently serves on the editorial boards of New German Critique, German Quarterly, English Studies in Canada, and Yale University Press' Margellos World Republic of Letters series.
