Uday S. Mehta is a professor of political theory at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is the author of Liberalism and Empire: A Study in Nineteenth-Century British Liberal Thought (University of Chicago Press, 1999) and has a forthcoming book on Gandhi called War and Peace, Violence and Non- violence.
